Respect and Recognition
As the tier of government that is closest to the community, local government has an important role in modelling recognition and respect and ensuring that the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal people are properly reflected in council plans, strategies and policies.
The 2012 Victorian Local Government Aboriginal Engagement and Reconciliation Survey identified the number of Councils in Victoria who undertake these activities.
The Municipal Association of Victoria has developed a number of resources to support improved employment outcomes for Aboriginal people in Victoria. The MAV approach focusses on three stages – Respect, Relationships and Opportunities.
